Kiev peaceful for Euro 2012

Ukraine still awaits a lot of work on preparations for Euro 2012 - said the head of UEFA Michel Platini during yesterday's visit to Kiev. His rating on the Polish preparations were considerably more optimistic. -- If this project will be carried out as in recent months, will complete a full success - Platini said Wednesday after his visit to Warsaw. The Ukrainian partners to ensure the UEFA delegation that meet expectations. -- We will even do impossible to become a championship celebration for the entire world, and Ukraine wili be proved a reliable partner - said Prime Minister Julia Tymoshenko.

The biggest objection of the UEFA delegation was reconstruction of the Olympic stadium in Kiev. Demolition of private entertainment center blocking escape routes arena began just before the visit of Platini. Why so late?

Yevhen Czerwonenko, the head of national agency for Euro 2012 in Ukraine: We need to complete the payment of compensation to the landlord construction. If you want to private investors not afraid to appear on the Ukrainian market, we need to be reliable. We want to give them a clear and straightforward message that all actions are in accordance with the law.

On the organisation of championships in Ukraine, investors will have to spend 20 billion dollars. Unstable political situation in Kiev probably does not help in creating a good climate for investors.

Preparations are in accordance with the schedule, and delays result from the need to respect the time limits provided for the law and procedures. Political life will not affect the decision of investors willing to spend money to host the event. Serious Ukrainian business has already invested in the construction of high-class stadiums and the development of local infrastructure. The big business follow others, including foreign entrepreneurs. Preparations for Euro will be financed as preferential loans granted by the European and U.S. financial institutions. Our government already has received on this specific proposals.

You said that expenditure from the Ukrainian budget for the organisation of the championships is only 0.39 percent. Is not Mr. worried?

I spoke on this issue with Prime Minister Julia Tymoshenko. She contend that the situation will change any time soon. I would like to believe it. I would not make tragedy from the lack of public funds. We can prepare for the organisation of the event by using private capital.

What about the laws that simplify way for investors to obtain concessions for the construction of hotels?

We proposed a draft law entitled. "The only investment window." Significantly, it facilitates the procedure for receipt of permits to carry out investments, which are on the list of projects Euro 2012. If adopted, investors would not wait to obtain concessions for two years, but for example, a few months. The draft law also examining the proposals in all ministries at the same time.

In what Poland can help Ukraine in its preparations for the championships?

We want to cooperate especially in the field of logistics and security, because, in my opinion, these areas are essential to the success of the project. We are interested also how you managing this project.
